Original Boats was founded in 2006, with offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg is a company specialising in boat acquisition, management and the maintenance of high-tech performance and specific purpose vessels for charter and sales.

The Executive Director of Original Boats is Thabane W. Zulu.
At the tender age of 19, Thabane was arrested in 1986 and sent to Robben Island in 1987 for furthering the aims and objectives of the then banned organization (ANC).

He was later released when the process of negotiating the political settlement started in South Africa, and was amongst many other young political prisoners that formed part of the negotiating teams that worked towards a peaceful political settlement in South Africa. He matriculated on Robben Island and furthered his studies with the University of Western Cape (UWC), whereby he completed his B.Admin and Honours Degree respectively. He has just completed his MBA programme. His commitment to making Robben Island a cultural and conservation showcase for Southern Africa and his pivotal aim to plough back a portion of the revenue stream into the Museum's efficiency and management, will ensure that this World Heritage Site maintains its unique symbolism that is "Triumph Of The Human Spirit Over Enormous Hardship And Adversity"

Robben Island is a Unesco World Heritage Site and one of South Africa's most significant historic tourist destinations. The windswept island, with its astounding legacy of confinement and brutality for those exiled there - the most famous being Nelson Mandela - and its paradoxical existence as a sanctuary for bird and animal life - is a place of mystery and amazement to the many who visit it.

The Island symbolizes the struggle for freedom against oppression of basic human rights. During the apartheid regime, between 1964 and 1991, African Chiefs, political leaders & business leaders who were brave enough to stand against any form of oppression, were incarcerated to Robben Island.

Today Robben Island resembles strength, resilience, hope, freedom and a great symbol of peaceful efforts in our new hard won democracy in South Africa. The Island attracts local and international people from all walks of life.

Exclusive Charter Service

Original Boats was awarded the tender (ESO 01/08) by the Robben Island Museum for the provision of a VIP Boat Service to Robben Island. The purpose of this project was to provide an exclusive aimed at dignitaries, celebrities and discerning visitors who enjoy a personalised visit to the Island.

Original Boats employed the services of John Martin, a seasoned skipper to run the operation. He and his team are on standby 24/7. The offering is to provide 7 star treatment to guests. The minute you board the motor yacht, you are swept away in a world of luxury from rose scented cloths to freshen up, welcome cocktails to the sheer feel of leather wood and glass that meets the eye. Crystal glassware, silverware, Egyptian linen on the beds entice the senses. You set sail from the Gateway in the V&A Waterfront to Robben Island. On docking you are met by a dedicated tour guide and shuttle bus take you on a unique and personalised tour. You will see sites of the Island not available to the general public. You will feel the hardships of the prisoners that were incarcerated on the Island and yet the absolute hope and peace that the Island now yields.

On return to the motor yacht, you are treated to a sumptuous array of foods and drinks to delight the most discerning, after which, the Captain sets sail for a scenic return to Cape Town via Camps Bay.
